Shouldn't have put it in writing...

Since I wrote down some goals for better spirituality a few days ago my progress has gone down the toilet. Hmmmm... wonder why? Things have been a bit hectic around here but I am mad that I get sucked into stuff on the computer or my phone. Here I am journaling when I should be doing my scripture study. I pulled out my laptop to work on some relief society stuff... and the computer was having a hard time pulling up my email... so I thought I would do a quick blog entry... which I did... then did relief society stuff...then read a few blogs... and here I am making another post. I can only be mad at myself. Now I am so tired that I just want to go to sleep. But can I sleep feeling guilty that I didn't make the best choices? I was too lazy to go downstairs to get my scriptures to read while waiting for my computer to wake up and respond. I am going to quit being a baby, get out of bed, put in my retainer and go grab my scriptures. I will sleep so much better.

One more thing... totally random but completely exciting! My sister-in-law, Celeste, had her baby boy a few mintues ago!!! They are going to name him Brayden. I love that name! (That was what I wanted to name Braxton and Bryce had a fit.) I am all excited!!! :)

Moments to remember....

Landen was all excited yesterday to go to preschool until he realized I wasn't going to be the one driving him. He got all emotional and pleaded for me to take him myself. It broke my heart but I knew he would be ok. Later that day we were talking about carpooling again to get him more comfortable with the idea. I asked him why he wanted me to drive him so bad every day and he said, "Cause you are the bestest mom ever!" AWWWWW! Thanks Landen!

The other night Abbey was sleep walking and was trying to put the poptarts away in the pantry from the kitchen counter. Bryce went down and asked her what she was doing and she acted all put out that he would even ask at midnight was she was doing with poptarts in the kitchen. I think that she might have been a bit stressed that her deadline was fast approaching for having her room "dejunked" and it was spilling over into her dreams and the kitchen!

Also the same night Abbey was insistent on putting away poptarts in her sleep she came ALL the way upstairs to use the bathroom. (I say ALL the way cause she passed a much more convient bathroom along the way) Instead of going into the bathroom though she opened the linen closet and was trying to walk in. The shelves were in the way and she was a bit confused why it wasn't working out for her. I was dying laughing in bed and Bryce had to get up to help her cause I couldn't stop laughing. Even now I am chuckling to myself just remembering about it.

Braxton seems to have made a little friend, Matthew, in kindergarten. I am excited to meet him and I hope that they can be good little friends. Braxton needs some more little guys he can play with.

September 12, 2010

I have to start off by saying that the rest of my week has gone much smoother since my September 8th post. It has been really nice to have Bryce back home and the "bodily accidents" haven't happened again. I am fighting off some sort of cold that is wiping my energy, but I will survive.

Yesterday morning Braxton had another soccer game and scored 3 goals! He was WAY excited. It is funny because he never plays around with a soccer ball and doesn't even really talk about soccer all week but he absolutely loves to go to practice and play in the games. I think that he is loving having something that he excels in. I think it is good for him to have non-stop running for an hour!

Today we were able to go to our regional stake conference. It is always a bit of a challenge to keep 4 little ones quiet and happy for 2 solid hours but I thought that they did quite well. (The starburst every 1/2 hour and a few random skittles here and there didn't hurt to keep them quiet.) Anyway, it was an inspiring meeting. I don't know the name of the guy who spoke first but he talked about remembering & renewing. It made me reflect on what kind of person I am trying to be and to remember to be that person in every situation that I am placed. To remember what I have been taught and to continue to renew my testimony cause if it isn't kept current it won't hold up to the challenges of today. I hadn't really thought about it in that way.

Julie Beck, the general relief society president, spoke about us understanding that we are "doing better than we think we are" and also that we need to do more. That was a bit confusing to me. It made me feel good when she reminded us how truly hard it is to be a mom and that it is a lot of work. I think that this is the "doing better than we think we are" part. Then she also told us that we need to not spend so much time on the computer or other technical devices. Our kids / families are needing us to nuture them and we could be doing more of that if we would unplug more. The computer needs to be a tool like our dishwashers & washing machines are. I don't feel like I have much of an issue as far as the computer goes but definately thought I could cut back a bit on being on my phone reading emails or texting.

Elder Holland then followed with some amazing pioneer stories. The faith, dedication & determination they had was amazing but he reminded us that we have to have more than they did to make it in these days. Am I focusing on the important stuff to be personally prepared and to prepare my family for the temptations of the devil? He is so sly and one of my biggest challenges he presents to me is to fill my time with unimportant things that seem important.

President Packer was the final speaker. What a sense of humor that man has! I was cracking up at all of his little comments. It was fun to see a little bit more relaxed side of him. He told some fun stories but also has such a great spirit with him and sense of love for people. You can't help but love him.

I walked away with a renewed determination to try harder to strengthen my testimony by prioritizing scripture study and personal prayer over facebook, bubble popper on my phone or tv. I also have a renewed determination to show my family how much I truly do love them with the time I spend with them, the tone of my voice, attitude in my repsonses, saying "please" and "thank you" more and overall having a greater sense of patience. I know that this won't happen overnight... and I won't be perfect at it... but I can improve and it is important to me to try.

Well, so much for my small entry. I was just going to type a paragraph or two and I always get a bit carried away. I am going to head to bed and hope my pounding headache will subside too. I feel a migraine coming on... I think I am turning into my mother! I have been getting more of them lately and I think it is from lack of good solid sleep. Anyway- here I am ranting again! Good night!!!

September 8, 2010

The day is almost over. I didn't know if I was going to survive the day or not! I have been completely drained of energy the past few days and with Bryce being gone to California for work... it isn't helping. I also haven't been able to get more than 2 hours of sleep without being woken up by one thing or another. Usually it is Mason waking up but if it isn't him, it has been one of our other 3 kids waking up with nightmares or sleepwalking. Last night Mason was actually sleeping really well and of course Braxton wasn't. He had gotten up several times scared and he had no idea what he was scared of. After putting him back to bed several times I was exhausted and gave in to have him sleep in my bed. I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal since there truly was space with Bryce being gone. I didn't count on Braxton getting a horrible bloody nose sometime in the night and getting blood ALL over my bed. Just when I thought that I had almost gotten a handle on the laundry. To make matters worse... this was discovered as I had realized that I had turned off my alarm and had overslept till 7:15 am and was WAY behind on getting everything going to get kids off to school. We made it to school on time and with some of the chores finished. Life got a bit more peaceful as I plugged along and folded clothes all morning. (We have tons of laundry from our Christensen reunion up at Island Park this past weekend.) I had to keep telling myself to take things one step at a time and not freak out that my entire house is a disaster and I have no energy. I was blessed to be able to take a nap this afternoon for a little while and that was VERY nice! I don't think I would have made it without it. It helped me keep my patience when Landen woke up from his nap and had wet his bed... more clothes to wash and complete bedding to clean up. I can do this. Now it is time to shuttle everyone to the car to take Braxton to karate. He absolutely LOVES it so it makes the work worth it. We then dropped him off to Porter's friend birthday party and headed home. Abbey then had a meltdown when I remind her that she needs to find her library book that is due (and is lost). Landen goes upstairs to hang up his shirts while I feed Mason some baby cereal. Not more than a few minutes later I call up to Landen to ask him how he is doing. He responds back that he has pooped his pants. REALLY!?!?! Do I need this?! He isn't done pooping but it is all over his legs and clothing. Mason is crying cause he wants me to keep feeding him. Abbey is bawling downstairs cause she is still trying to find her book (in all of her clutter). I decided to just sit Landen down on the toilet as he is still covered in poop, wash my hands and go back to feeding Mason. Mason is doing really well eating and didn't bat an eyelash having baby peas mixed in with his rice cereal & formula. (He has had peas for over two weeks now.) He did shiver and pull a horrible face though when I gave him a spoon full of just peas. I guess he is just more of a squash guy cause he can't ever get enough of that. Now it is back to cleaning and bathing Landen. He is bawling over having to put his pj's on so early in the evening but I am not about to add one more outfit to my already mounting laundry pile and it isn't that far away from bedtime.

Somehow I managed to squeeze in getting dinner fixed (meatloaf & banana squash--from our garden). Nothing fancy but tonight I just needed to have something easy. We finished off the night with baths for the rest of the kids, scripture study w/ the kids and a chapter in "The tales of the fourth grade nothing." We called Bryce to say goodnight and he talked to me long enough to get a load of dishes going before I collapsed. So why am I journaling right now...???? I went to crash on the bed and realized I hadn't dried the sheets yet. They were still in the washer from getting the blood out this morning.

It is on days like today that I wonder what in the world I signed up for when I decided that I wanted to be a mom. But it is the excited wide open gummer smiles from Mason at the sight of me, mandatory hugs and kisses from the boys at both naptime and bedtime and Abbey wishing that I could come to the school to cook squash for school lunch ("cause I make it the best ever... along with Grandma Bezzant") that makes my job worth it.

My kids are growing up so fast. Before I know it they won't be around to cause such issues and I will be ever so lonely. Landen is helping me realize that even more. Tomorrow is his 2nd day of preschool and he has told me that he doesn't need me to walk in with him anymore. He can do it himself. It makes me want to laugh and cry all at the same time. I am glad he feels confident but I wasn't expecting him to actually TELL me to not go in to drop him off! He is barely 3!

The dryer has just finished. I am now going to drag my tired body upstairs, make the bed and crash. I just pray that all of the kids will stay asleep and our day will go a bit smoother tomorrow!

Where did the summer go?

This summer was packed with a million activities! I felt like we were running from one thing to the next. I guess that helped to keep the house a little bit cleaner since we weren't home as much to mess it up. OR the house was messier cause we weren't home in solid amounts of time to cleanit up! Who knows. A few highlights of the summer were:

  • Swim lessons at the PG pool for the kids

  • Gymnastics for Braxton & Abbey

  • Abbey's baptism

  • Demolition Derby in Fairview on the 24th of July in which Deric won theWipe Out heat!

  • T-ball with Braxton

  • Soccer with Braxton (he is so aggressive and he scores almost every game!)

  • A weeklong "staycation"

  • The older 3 kids spending a few days in Idaho w/ Grandma & Grandpa Christensen!

  • Camping in Idaho for Tim's 60th birthday!

  • Landen & Abbey's birthdays

  • 4th of July BBQ & fireworks

  • Random swim days at the PG & Lindon community pools

    • Bryce and I were lucky enough to have Bryce's parents invite our kids up to Idaho for a few days. They had a BLAST!!! They were able to spend time with their "Idaho" cousins at the local splash pad, pizza joint, museum and much much more.

Bryce and I just had Mason to worry about and felt light as a feather! Last year when the kids were gone we went non-stop the entire time but this time we were worn out and relaxed much much more. We did do a single track motorbike ride up American Fork Canyon while my mom watched Mason, hit a few buckets of golf balls, went to dinner, did a little shopping, watched a few movies and took some naps! Now that was a vacation!

We couldn't really think of any place to do a vacation this year w/ the kids (cause I want to go to Disneyland but Bryce doesn't) and we didn't want to spend our entire vacation driving in the car (especially with a baby!) We decided to do a "staycation." We camped overnight up AF canyon, went to the pool, saw Toy Story 3 at the theatre, visited the Living Planet Aquarium to pet the sting ray, went to the demolition derby and just plain old playing. I think the kids had the most fun jumping on the trampoline and playing 4 square with us! We all had a great time and I think the kids have gotten over the fact that they still had to make their beds and clean their rooms that week. :)

To top off our summer we went camping in Idaho for my father-in-law's 60th birthday! We had such a great time!!! There were NO bugs! I was totally dreading the bugs! The kids were filthy dirty the entire time and smiling. As adults we enjoyed sitting around the campfire at night eating snacks and chatting. With all I packed I chose to leave my camera at home. It was a mistake but I didn't want to have to worry about one more thing and I figured Mason was going to be in my arms the entire time anyway. So many people were willing to hold him at various times so I could do random stuff and that helped a ton! It was also nice that Bo & Celeste brought a port-a-potty so we didn't have to hike up to the outhouse or squat in the trees! Lucky me! I can't believe of all people that I had fun camping! I am a changed woman. :) Here are a few pictures thanks to Dustin's wife, Jeanie!

Landen w/ his walking stick that Bryce carved for him!

Trent harrassing Bryce with Landen looking on.

Both my Abbey & Dustin's Abbie riding bikes with Dustin keeping tabs on these two speed demon girls!

Trent & his daughter, Lucy, entertaining Mason.

Braxton & Landen whipping up something delicious with all of that gourmet mud!

Bryce intently carving a walking stick for the kids. They each got their own and he had to put their names in them too so they would quit fighting when somebody lost theirs.

Landen playing w/ one of grandpa's birthday balloons while he watched the older kids ride dirtbikes.

And the birthday boy himself, Tim, holding Conrad & Brody while his good wife, Tricia, continues to be at his side! :)

With all of the fun of this summer I have to say that I haven't shed any tears yet that the house has gotte a bit quieter now that Abbey is back in school. 2 more days till Braxton starts kindergarten and one more week till Landen has preschool a few days a week. I still have Mason at home and a whole list of chores waiting to keep me company in the mornings and lots of hugs to squeeze, car rides to give and homework to help out on in the afternoons to keep me on my toes till bedtime!

      Abbey's Baptism Day

On Saturday, July 31st 2010 Abbey was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by her dad. Her Grandpa Bezzant and Grandpa Christensen were the official witnesses of the baptism and Bryce conferred the Holy Ghost upon Abbey. It was such a great day for us! We had so many family members there to show their support. Abbey is a beautiful girl and is ever so sweet!

A few weeks before the baptism Abbey and I had the chance to go to a local park and snap a few photos of her in her baptism dress. She sparkled from head to toe and it was lots of fun. She didn't appreciate the hour of hair curling before we left but she felt like a princess once all of the work was done. I wish that I would have been able to also record the cute giggles she had as we took some of these photos.

Here is the photo of everyone that came... except for my friend Ali Echevarria. She was off talking to a neighbor of mine and didn't realize we were doing photos. We love that so many were willing to give up a Saturday morning to come be with us!

The men that stood in the confirmation circle for Abbey: Great Grandpa Jim Bezzant, Uncle Uncle Uncle Dustin Christensen, Uncle Issac Rands, Uncle Bo Porter, Uncle Deric Shelley, Bryce, Grandpa Tim Christensen, Grandpa Mark Bezzant, Great Uncle John Bezzant, Uncle Dave Bezzant & Uncle Kellen Hilton.

      Abbey w/ her dad.

      Our little family

Us girls have to stick together!!! :)

Grandma Christensen, Abbey & Grandma Bezzant.

After the baptism everyone came over for lunch and a great time. Twister was given to Abbey that day as a birthday present and it was a party favorite! Lots of laughs filled our house while that game was being played.

Here are some sweet things that Abbey was blessed with during her confirmation:

      *Remember this day

*Look back on this day and remember the feelings that she felt

      *Her family loves her

*Be a good example to her brothers and family

*Recognize the promptings of the spirit

*Strength to follow the promptings of the spirit and help others

We love you to death Abbey! I get all teary just thinking about how much she has grown up already and how proud I am for all of the good choices she makes daily. You are oh so sweet Abbey!!!

      Randomness...

I have so many exciting events that I need to blog about and not much time to do it... so they are going to have to wait. I want to journal some random thoughts / events / situations or whatever you want to call them. No pictures to worry about tonight cause that takes up too much time and I need to get to bed.

*My house is not looking at its best, but the lawn is mowed. (Bryce will need to weed whack it when he gets back into town-- I don't weed whack. It scares me, frustrates me cause I can't keep the thing running and I honestly don't know if my arms could hold it up after mowing the lawn. Our self propelled part isn't working on our mower. I guess it gives me the workout I need and truly desire.)

*I had a lot of fun reading with the kids tonight. They are really enjoying reading a few verses out of the Book of Mormon. Abbey can read her own verse while Braxton and Landen repeat what we whisper to them. Either it is in jet engine volume or so quiet nobody can hear them--especially Landen. It has been good for us to do it cause it has helped me listen better to where they are having some speach issues with certain sounds. And of course there are many other benefits to reading the scriptures.

*We are also currently reading "Super Fudge." The kids busted up uncontrollably laughing tonight when the 5 year old boy, Fudge called his Kindergarten teacher "Rat Face" after she was not nice to him. Normally I wouldn't really be ok with them laughing when somebody was called a name... but the teacher honestly deserved it... and I couldn't help but bust up laughing just hearing them giggling so hard over it. It makes me smile just thinking about it right now.

*Braxton is giving our babysitters a run for their money. There seems to be some sort of switch that turns on and he goes from being sweet to a defiant stinker in a half a second. I don't know what to do. He gets Landen on the bandwagon as well. I came home from doing some Relief Society visits today to lay down the law with them. They were quite surprised to have me fly through the door when I should have been gone. What to do??? He is such a sensitive boy and I think that it usually starts with him getting his feelings hurt somehow...I don't know though cause he tries to pull some stuff with me and I generally can shut it right down before he gets out of control. Our poor babysitters... And at the same time... poor Braxton cause I don't want him to be miserable with them either.

*Mason went to the doctor today for his checkup and immunizations. He is such a cute and smiley baby! He weighs 16 lbs and is 26 inches long. I love his blonde fuzzy flat top hair that he has going on w/ his gorgeous blue eyes! He was winning the hearts of everyone in the office. He was a tuff cookie and didn't cry too much with the shots. It has made him grumpy today and that breaks my heart that he doesn't feel good from them. I keep him going w/ medicine for the day and usually by tomorrow he is fine. Quick funny story from the doctor's office. Mason was stripped down to his diaper from being weighed and was sitting on my lap waiting for Dr. Mower to come into the exam room. He started to poop a few loud poops and I jumped up, set him on the exam table (covered in the exam paper stuff) and thought I will be such a great mom and hurry to change the diaper before we have any complications. I was too late! The MOMENT I set him down on the table poop GUSHED out from the top back of his diaper all over the exam paper. No big deal I thought. I will wipe him off with a few wet wipes, move him down a few feet on the table and rip that section of poop soaked paper off with no problems. I had just moved Mason down to a new spot and was about to rip off the paper when he grabbed the exam paper with his death like grip and pulled the paper up and over to him. Poop went running all over! By the time I had everything cleaned up I had poop on the front of my shirt, a wad of exam paper the size of a basketball, 3 other children who were restless wanting me to keep reading them books and a very happy baby! I about died when Dr. Mower walked into the room and I had to explain to him why there was this massive amount of wadded up exam paper in my hand. From the look on his face when he walked into the room... he must have thought I was nuts! I am sure he has seen similar problems or experienced them himself... but I wanted to die!

*We have had a major breakthrough for our family the past few weeks! We have been struggling all summer with the kids acting out and having a MISERABLE time getting chores done! Every day I just wanted to die and was so frustrated! Bryce and I sat down one night to get some solutions. We had been sleeping in a bit... me till about 8 am if I could and the kids were waking me up when they got up fighting. We decided that we had to be up and moving before the kids got up. Bryce was already doing this but he was in the shower and such when trouble would start. We cracked down on ourselves, set alarms for ourselves and it has been a night and day difference! Bryce gets up before me and showers for work. My alarm goes off at 6:55 am and I have from 7 till 7:30 am to shower and get ready. During my "spa time" as Bryce calls it he is in charge of the kids and has to be helping their morning to move along and not leave them to fight with each other. I have to admit when the alarm goes off I just want to go back to sleep cause I am dog tired but it is so worth it! The kids usually wake up around 7:30 and now I am ready to take on the noise with a smile. Once school starts I will have to bump up our alarms a half an hour earlier but thats ok too. I have found that generally I am just as tired at 6:30 as I am at 7:30 am. I know it isn't a new concept but I am thankful for the answer to my prayers and the strength to do it!

*Landen has learned how to ride a 2 wheeler bike! He doesn't seem to enjoy riding it much though. He still prefers to ride the 3 wheeled pink scooter from Abbey. Maybe more practice and experience will make him more comfortable.

*Mason can roll over from his back to his stomach and from his stomach to his back. He doesn't do it a ton but can when he wants something. He loves standing in the exersaucer to play. He loves chewing/slobbering on his fists and occasionally finds a finger to suck on. He isn't a big fan of his binki and pulls a sour face if you ever give it to him when he doesn't want it. It works about half the time to calm him down to go to sleep. We wrap him up tight in a blanket with another fuzzy blanket on the top of him, give him his binki and he goes to sleep. Most the time the binki doesn't stay in his mouth for long but no complaints here as long as he goes to sleep. Mason is getting a voice. He loves to babble when things are quiet. He has a death grip and you have to watch out for your juggular, any hair on your body (especially Bryce's leg and arm hairs!) and cheeks.

*Abbey and Braxton have been taking gymnastics this summer. They love to do it and wished we could have them continue on during the school year. They are always "putting on shows" for us and Landen is quick to jump in with his gymnastic tricks. Abbey is SUPER flexible and we tease her that she will have to join the circus and make us rich.

*Sunday night after the kids were in bed Bryce and I listened to a fireside that John Bytheway had done for our stake on 5 ways to improve your marriage. Deseret Book made it into a "book on tape" and our ward had a copy of it. It was so great to listen to it! It was nice to hear things from a third party source that we can each work on. I feel that we are happily married but who couldn't use a little improvement??? The best part was going for a walk around our block a few times afterwards. I LOVE THESE WALKS!!! It is so peaceful outside, I get some exercise and we just talk. I love them! I love them! I love them! And the best part was that he suggested going that night. He must love me! :)

Well- it is a few minutes past bedtime and I need to be at full force tomorrow. The alarm is going to go off all too soon!
